About Huoqiu　　　

　Huoqiu County is located in the west of Anhui Province, at the northern foot of Dabie Mountain and the southern mid-reach of the Huai River. Her overall landform is plain where a hilly area is in the south and a wide plain is in the north. The county administrates 32 towns, a provincial economic development zone and 425 administrative villages. She covers a total area of 3,493 square kilometers, the second largest county in the Province. And she has a population of 1.66 million, which ranks fifth among all the counties in the Province. 
    Huoqiu County has a long history and she has given birth to a number of talents. She was called “Liao State” in the Western Zhou Dynasty. It was established as a county by Emperor Wen of Sui in 599AD and now it has a history of more than 1400 years. Plenty of renowned people, such as Sun Shu’ao, Prime Minister of Chu State, Zhu Yuanzhang, first emperor of the Ming Dynasty and Chen Duxiu, founder of the Chinese Communist Party have been here successively. Among six members of the famous literary society, founded by Lu Xun, ----Weiming Society, Wei Suyang, Wei Congwu, Li Jiye, Tai Jingnong were all born in Huoqiu. Jiang Guangci, who was born in Baitafan village in former Huoqiu (now the place is administrated under Jinzhai county),was a representative of the Sun Society. He was also a pioneer of Chinese proletariat. Wang Yeqiu, author, founder of the Chinese culture relics cause and the first director of Heritage Bureau, and Li Helin, a famous literary critic and the first curator of Lu Xun Museum, these two were both born here. There are other Huoqiu-born renowned people as well. For instance, the novel The Historical Sky was written by Xu Guixiang, a famous army writer won the 6th Mao Dun Literature Prize. The poem I worked in Guangdong was regarded as the start of the Chinese working poetry, which was written by a famous working poet named Liu Dongwu. His literary review The Mental Birthmark from Country to City is the first poetry theory monograph in China. Hu Qingrong, a boxing athlete who won the first place at the Doha Asian Games and the 2008 World Cup Challenge. Apart from this, Huoqiu is also a famous revolutionary base. As early as in 1924, Huoqiu established its organizations attached to the Chinese Communist Party. More than 4,000 men and women sacrificed their lives for revolution during successive wars. Li Te, chief of staff of the 4th Red Army, was famous for his remarkable feats. Among the first group generals of the People’s Republic of China, eleven of them were born here, such as Lieutenant-General Tao Yong who was a deputy commander of the Chinese Navy and commander of the East China Sea Fleet, and Lieutenant-General Yang Guofu who was the deputy commander of the Ji’nan Military Region.
　Huoqiu county has a superior location and convenient transportation.  It possesses an important location which is easily accessible from all directions of the county and it connects vast area of the Central China. A few stations have been built in Huoqiu and the transportation here is very convenient. For example, No.105, No. 312 State Highways, Hefei—Wuhan Highway, Fuyang—Lu’an Highway and No. 310 Provincial Highway, Nanjing—Xi’an Railway, Fuyang—Lu’an Railway all go through Huoqiu. The biggest water-control project built in the middle reaches of the Huai River ----Linhuaigang Flood Control Project was located at Huoqiu, and this project was invested 2.3 billion yuan by the State. Two ports of the Huai River--- Zhouji Port and Qingfa Port have been built and used. 　　
　Huoqiu has a beautiful environment and scenery. The two city lakes of Houqiu, the West lake and the East lake, are alike two pearls inlaying at the two sides of the county. Located in the north of the county, Watergate Pond is a hydraulic work, which was built under the governance of Sun Shu’ao. It is also known as the Thousand-island lake in western Anhui Province. The pond is dotted with plenty of islands and there are also many kinds of birds flying around it. Lijiawei, one of the four biggest landlord manors across China, is located at the foot of the beautiful West Mountain. It is a national key cultural relics protection unit and a major sightseeing site in the Province as well. 　　
　 Huoqiu County has abundant resources and it lays stress on its agricultural development. It is not only an important commodity grain and high quality rapeseed production base, but also an important county of animal husbandry and fishery production. A number of products and resources are the best either in the Province or top in the nation wide. The total grain output is over million tons, which has been commended by the national government for 9 years in a row. Since ancient times, clams, shrimps and whitebait have been articles of tribute, even now they are still sold very well. The number of pigs and the yield of meat and eggs rank 1st in Anhui Province and are in the top 100 all over China. There are over 20 kinds of mineral reserves under ground, including iron ore and limestone. The known volume of iron ore reserves is 2.5 billion tons and the volume of future reserves is 3.5 billion tons, ranking 1st in East China and 5th all over the country. It is the only oversized iron mine which has been newly developed in China. The iron ore in Huoqiu consists of nine deposits with an average grade of 32%. And it has many features, such as concentrated scale, thick and large ore bodies, simple geological conditions, good wash ability and little harmful elements. With the accelerated process of reform and opening up, advantages of Huoqiu labor resources have been further stand out. More than 400,000 migrant workers across the county find their jobs in Shanghai, Beijing, Guangdong and other places. And their annual income is five billion yuan. Over 1,100 workers from Fengjing village work at Zhongguangcun in Beijing and this number accounts for more than 60% of the CPU computer chip market. As a result, it is known as the “Fengjing phenomenon” and it has had a relatively big impact on the Chinese market.
　Huoqiu has excellent facilities and an active market. Huoqiu has been gradually stepping up its process of urbanization and now it is a model in the national county construction. The county has put up an urban framework of ‘eight latitudes and six horizons’. The built-up urban area is 20.5 square kilometers and the urban population is 200,000. The goods circulation system is sound with a number of emerging specialized markets which connect the Central China and reach the East China. The annual turnover is over 3 billion yuan.
　Huoqiu keeps a good momentum in its economic development. In 2012, its gross regional domestic production was 19.34 billion yuan with an increase of 11.5% compared with last year. The industrial added value increased by 18.7% to 84.8 billion yuan. Compared with last year, the county’s fiscal revenue increased by 16.4% to 2.05 billion yuan. The actual domestic capital investment was 11.48 billion yuan with an increase rate of 27.7%. The annual use of foreign direct investment was 49.16 million yuan, with an increase of 16.2%. Savings deposit of financial institutions totaled 19.81 billion yuan, increasing by 27.7%. The loan balance was 10.07 billion yuan, increasing by 12.6%. Compared with last year, peasants’ average annual income was 6615 yuan, increasing by 15.5%. Many major economic indicators of Huoqiu topped in Lu’an municipality. The value of strategic emerging industries production was 1.05 billion yuan, increased by 44.2%. The contribution rate of industry to the economic growth was 65.5%. The industrial structure was further optimized. The rate of secondary and tertiary industries both increased by 1.6%. There are 98 large industrial enterprises in total, increasing by 15 in this year. Ten enterprises worth over one billion yuan. Four businesses pay taxes over a hundred million. 45 enterprises have been praised by the municipal government because of their more than ten million taxation. Among these enterprises, 10 of them are in Huoqiu. Three enterprises have been newly identified as national high-tech enterprises this year.
